Herbs for Stings, Bites, Sunburns, Poison Ivy, and other Summer Woes

It's almost that time of year again.  Stock up now before you need then in a pinch Summertime means insect bites and stings. Ouch!  Soothe, heal, and prevent bites with safe herbal remedies that grow right where you live. The best natural remedies for insect bites are right underfoot.  Anise hyssop (Agastache forniculm)

  • Summer Colds

  • Summer Nausea, heaviness in the body, summer diarrhea

  • Food Poisoning

  • cough suppressant

  • fever reducer

  • Sore throat ameliorator

Cleavers (Gallium aparine)

  • Tea topically for sunburns, burns, scalds

  • You can even use a nest of them to clean dirty water

Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) root or expressed juice

  • Tincture or compress of strong tea topically to bites and stings

  • virus infections

  • Strengthen Immunity

Gumweed (Grtindelia spp.)

  • Tops made into a wash for poison ivy

                (crushed as a poultice of 15-minute decoction as a wash)

  • Tops Poultice on sores, cuts, burns

Plantain (Plantago major)

  • Bites (mosquito, spider, fly, snake) and stings

  • Cuts, scrapes

  • Aching feet

  • Boils      

  • Poison Ivy

  • Thorns and splinters

  • Blood poisoning, abscesses

Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica)

  • Juice to alleviate stings

  • Bleeding (internal or external)

  • Leaf tea for hayfever

  • Arthritis

  • Lower back pain

Yellow Dock (Rumex crispus)

  • Poulticed leaves onto nettle stings

  • mild laxative

  • Irritated Dry cough
